Get Hot with Louisian WiFi Hotspots
Gone were the days when the only way to access the Internet was by visiting an Internet Café or visiting the university's Internet and Multi Media Office . With the prices of computers , particularly Laptops, going down, a lot from the middle class group in the community has gained better accessibility to the modern world of mobile computing. Aside from the prices of hardware going down , a new wireless technology was introduced to exploit the power of mobile computing , WiFi .
Realizing this trend , the university made a bold move to further improve the Internet services being provided to students and employees by integrating WiFi hotspots in the university. In coordination with the Center for Computers and Information Services Office , the project was successfully launched last 2nd Semester of SY 2006-2007. Currently , there are 4 active WiFi hotspots in the university , three of which are for use by the students and employees and the other 1 is solely for employees use.
How do we avail of the free internet access being provided by these hotspots? The basic requirement for anyone to be able to use the service is to have the necessary hardware to be used in browsing, this may be a laptop with WiFi connectivity or a mobile phone or PDA that is WiFi Enabled. Provided that you already own any of the device mentioned, you can just go to any of the WiFi hotspots in the university, establish connection with the hotspot and surf away till your battery is drained. The hotspots are available during office hours and since all traffics are still passing through the university firewall, the users may expect that some web sites are blocked.
